There is something mesmerizing in a perfume diffused in the air. Indeed, if we really think about it we only smell once. A scent is meant to be ephemeral.

Scent is a unique art: in consuming it, we consume it. When you see a beautiful painting, your eyes can look at it and look at it again, discovering maybe new details or new emotions while looking at it but the painting remains the same. When a song is playing, it will be playing the same way whether if you listen or don’t listen to it. Every time, it will be played at the radio it will be played with the same intensity.

But every time a perfume, whatever its provenance, works its magic, it dies a little. The olfactory delight is provoked by the evaporation of molecules: vivid ones like the lime or heavier, slower-evaporating ones like woods.

We only smell once!

Like a love story that ended, it does not mean that the emotion will die. When the scent of the man or woman who shared your life at some point will come across you when you don’t expect it, the emotion will catch you the same. There is no magic there, scent is linked to the emotional part of the brain. Intense but temporary. As you inhale, will come back the passion and the comfort while when you exhale the steam will weaken taking with it the memories.

This is why, as when you meet someone, your first encounter with a fragrance is extremely important. This first impression will last forever and will be reanimated every time you smell this fragrance. Most of the time this won’t even be conscious. You’ll feel less tense and generally happier while entering this room slightly vanilla scented because it will remember you home, or relaxed because this ocean scent is associated in your brain with a childhood memory of holidays and laughs.

We only smell once, but the positive emotions encapsulated in this smell last forever.
